Picketralian East-West Divide
Many historians, philosophers, economists, and educators widely consider the Stimpton River to be a key east or west divide in Picketralia. To the west of the river is Bartholomeu County, Lynwhag County, parts of Bushley County, Hayes County, and Sullivan County, and the east of the river includes the rest of Bushley County, Flourtess County, Mordor County, and Ossere County. Counties to the west of the river are typically more populous, dense, wealthier, educated, and politically left-leaning, such as Stimpton, the country's largest city, as well as South Stimpton, while counties to the east of the river are typically more rural, poorer, with a lack of education and more conservative politically.
Residents east of the river, known as "easterners", have been the subject of ridicule by residents west of the river for being uneducated and poorer--however, easterners are quick to note that residents west of the river, known as "westerners", often vacation in the Flourtess Bay. Eastern counties also have a considerably lower cost of living, and Ossere County does not have any taxes whatsoever, which has made it a popular place to live for many who wish to become homesteaders or rogues but do not have the means to leave the country. Due to this, Ossere County has no consolidated government and county services are provided by Flourtess County.
