Royal Land System
The Royal Land System, often shortened to RLS, is a Picketralian government entity directly controlled by the King of Picketralia and through the Office of Royal Property, which is directed by the Director of Royal Lands and a Director of Land Management, the former of which manages the legal and tax aspects of the land, and the latter manages the maintenance of the land, including, but not limited to agriculture leases, forest management, water and mining rights, etc.
The system operates under legal provisions that every piece of land in Picketralia that is not owned by a private entity, a residence of the king, or is otherwise public property is owned by the Royal Family. Land owned by the RLS is not tax-exempt and accounts for approximately 11% of all property tax revenue in the country.
The system has gained controversy in recent years for its perceived greed and waste. However, supporters of the system believe that is directly affects the rate of land development in the country for human use, and therefore protects natural areas in the country.
The Royal Land System owns approximately 1/6 of the land in the country and is the country's largest landowner. The majority of land owned is located in Flourtess County, where it leases water, mining, and timber rights to various individuals and companies.
