In 1018, 40 years after the Fall of Railtown, the economy collapsed. Railtown's money had dried up and the [[Panic of 1018]] began. The Picketralians were not taxed at all because the government simply had piles of money and taxes were unnecessary. In response, the government created a new service that was originally intended to be temporary as means for the government to make money: the [[Picketralian Postal Service]]. It proved so popular the government ended up keeping it.
