Picketralia has three main political parties: the [[Bellingborne Party]], which is a conservative party, the [[Maiman Party]], which is a far-left leaning party with socialist ideologies, and the [[Belleisle Party]], a center-left party. As of now, the Bellingborne Party controls the senate, but representatives serve terms of 2 years, whilst government officials are appointed by the King and approved by the senate, and serve for life or retirement.

There is a single court for the entire country, the High Court, located in Sand Dune City, as most disputes are settled out of court. According to the [[Common Entitlements]], "Every person is entitled to a fair trial with a jury of their neighbors, and a jury of common opinion." This was interpreted as a jury of six from their county, and five from the entire country. The jury must come to a universal agreement on a verdict in order to deliver a verdict.

The King of Picketralia is typically the judge of most cases, hearings, or trials. Sometimes, the court will elevate a potential twelfth juror to serve as the judge. This system has come into recent controversy, and so King Mason I sued himself in [[Grivan-Bartholemeu vs. Grivan-Bartholemeu]] to prove that he was impartial, sentencing himself to house arrest.

The country has the highest crime rate for all developed nations. While violent crime is very low, affecting only 1/100,000 citizens, property crime, pickpocketing, and street scams are common throughout [[Stimpton]]. In response, the government created an at-large police force, the [[Picketralian Police]], to combat this. Efforts have been partially successful, although these crimes are still a problem.
