Battle of Kennings

The Battle of Kennings, also known as Kenning's Battle, was the result of an armed military operation by Cardashia on February 26, 1201, that failed. Its attempted goal to invade Picketralia, and seize the government, and cede the territory to Cardashia.

Background

Cardashia was a smaller kingdom on Card Island, a very long, and thin desert and stone island located in the Kronx Sea, north of Flourtess. They were originally a protectorate of Zorthenia, however, once Zorthenia had practically collapsed after the independence of what is now Picketralia in 100CE, it became it’s own country. However, located in an inconvenient part of the world, it never fully succeeded as it’s own country.

Picketralia was a larger kingdom that had also been part of Zorthenia. They were located in and around the Mollard Valley and the largest city in the world, Stimpton, on the Stimpton River. They were occupied by the Kingdom of Railtown from 126 CE-978 CE, before they won their independence and became their own country.

Initial conflict

Cardashia began sending espionage missions to Picketralia in December of 1199, who were instructed to create high-detail maps of Stimpton, Sand Dune City, and the wilderness between the far northeastern corner of the country and Cardashia, as well as infiltrate Picketralian society. Several high detail maps were created, of which were destroyed in the battle.

Starting in June of 1200, they began the construction of a fleet of 23 warships made of the Cardashian palmetto, a species found only on that island, to pose as merchants and acquire topographical data on the Stimpton River watershed.

Picketralia began to notice towards November 1200 and planned on a sting operation to catch them in the act. At this time, Outpost Island hadn’t been constructed yet (it wouldn’t until 1373), and so they sent the Navy to the Birch River to arrest them. On November 29, 1200, the *CRS Fillpepper* attempted to enter the Stimpton Delta and the Navy arrested all 27 crew.

Cardashia took this as a declaration of war, despite no declaration on Picketralia’s part. Picketralian naval law requires that all foreign ships must pay a higher tax, of which Cardashia refused to do.

Starting in December, top Cardashian military officials such as Commander Rouge Takolou, as well as the Duke of Cardashia, began forming a plan to invade Picketralia, and take Stimpton. It was a three part plan: infiltrate their weaker northeastern borders, overwhelm their army, and take Stimpton.
